Innate within Austin, Texas, Hawke moved to Princeton, New Jersey at an early age, where he took acting classes at a McCarter Theatre. He foremost appeared within various high school performances, e.g. inside George Bernard Shaw’s Saint Joan.

At a age of 14 he manufactured his feature film debut inside Explorers (1985). After, Hawke exposed acting at a British Theatre Association around England and at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He has twice enrolled around Future York University's English program & is one of the initiation fathers & artistic director of Malaparte, a New York City theatre company.

Within 1988, Hawke was offered a role inside Peter Weir’s Dead Poets Society and his part when Todd Anderson was his breakthrough. He left school & appeared within The Midnight Clear, Alive, Reality Bites, Before Sunrise, Gattaca, The Newton Boys, Dandy Expectations and numerous more film. Inside 2001 he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Training Day.

Hawke has recently directed Chelsea Bulwarks & has written ii novels, A Hottest State (1996) and Ash Wednesday (2002).

In May 1, 1998 he married actress Uma Thurman with whom he has two tykes, girl Maya Ray (born July 8, 1998) and boy Levon Roan (born January 15, 2002). It separated around 2004 amid tabloid rumours of the relationship between Thurman & Quentin Tarantino on the set of Kill Bill and his own unfaithfulness by having an unknown woman. Inside 2005, along with his co-writers, he received his number one screenwriting Oscar nomination for Before Sunset (a sequel to Prior to Sunrise).

Hawke owns a little island off the coast of Nova Scotia.
